1st level beginner's course [A1] ObjectivesThe objective of the course is to provide students with the abilities and skills required for simple and essential oral interaction in the most common and familiar situations in order to satisfy concrete demands. Special attention is given to aspects of pronunciation (phonological control) and writing (orthographic control) of the Italian language. Length and characteristicsThe 1st level Beginner’s course is of 3 kinds: - one month- two months- three monthsThis course leads up to the 2nd level Beginner’s course and is for students whose native languages are very distant from Italian or designed as a one or two-month supplementary course for students who are complete beginners and cannot attend a basic course. The course consists of 20 hours per week. Access to the course is by interview.Subjects per week- Italian language: 12 hours- Speaking language: 12 hours- Practice in pronunciatin and orthography: 2 hoursCertificateAt the end of the 1st level Beginner’s course students may sit a final examination for an Italian Language Certificate, corresponding to A1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), acquiring the 6/12 ECTS necessary as access to the next level.. 1st level intensive beginner's course - Italian language: 12 hours - Speaking practice: 9 hours - Writing practice: 4 hours - Practice in pronunciation and orthography: 2 hours - Total hours of lessons per week: 27 hours 2st level beginner's course [A2]ObjectivesThe objective of the course is to train students to understand and create frequently used sentences and expressions related to environments of immediate relevance (for example, basic information on people, families, purchases, local geography, study and work). Furthermore, students must be capable of communicating in routine situations, providing a simple and appropriate description of the aspects of their personal experience and environment and areas that refer to immediate needs.Length and characteristicsThe 2nd level Beginner’s course is a three-month course with 20 hours of lessons per week.The supplementary course is a one-month or two-month course with 20 hours of lessons per week. All beginner students who have never studied Italian before or who have only a little knowledge of Italian (false beginners) have access to the basic 2nd level Beginner’s course through an interview.Subjects per week- Italian language: 12 hours- Speaking language: 12 hours- Practice in pronunciation and orthography: 2 hoursCertificatesAt the end of the 2nd level Beginner’s course, after passing the final examination, students may take an Italian Language Certificate, corresponding to A2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), acquiring the 20 ECTS necessary for access to the next level. 2nd level intensive beginner's course - Italiana language: 12 hours- Speaking practice: 9 hours- Writing practice: 4 hours- Practice in pronunciation and orthography: 2 hours- Total hours of lessons per week: 27 hours1st level intermediate course [B1] ObjectivesThe objective of the course is to create the conditions for students to begin, maintain and conclude a short and simple conversation face-to-face or over the telephone, to easily understand simple routine exchanges, to make themselves understood and to swap ideas and information on familiar topics. Furthermore they must be able to interact in situations that may arise while travelling around Italy, to describe experiences, dreams, hopes, to briefly present reasons and to provide explanations on opinions, projects and their intentions. Length and characteristicsThe 1st level Intermediate course is a three-month course with 20 hours of lessons per week.The supplementary course is a one-month or two-month course. Access to the 1st level Intermediate course is granted to: - Students who have attended the 2nd level Beginner’s course- Students who have been assigned to the 1st level Intermediate course by the entrance exam - Students who have a CELI 1 or equivalent Italian Language Certificate issued by another similar institution to our University Subjects per week- Italian language: 12 hours- Speaking practice: 6 hours - Practice in pronunciation and orthography: 2 hours CertificatesAt the end of the 1st level Intermediate course, after passing the final examination, students may take an Italian Language Certificate, corresponding to B1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), acquiring the 20 ECTS necessary for access to the next level. Students who attend the supplementary courses for two months of the same level may automatically enrol in the third month of the basic course of the same level and sit the final exam.1st level intensive intermediate course- Italian language: 12 hours- Speaking practice: 9 hours - Writing practice: 4 hours - Practice in pronunciation and orthography: 2 hours - Total hours of lessons per week: 27 hours 2st level intermediate course [B2] ObjectivesThe objective of the course is to allow students to interact with a native speaker without great difficulty in formal and informal situations and to understand the fundamental ideas of complex texts in concrete and abstract, as well as technical and literary topics. They must be able to write clear articles on several topics and express their opinions on current topics, indicating the advantages and disadvantages of the various options. Length and characteristicsThe 2nd level Intermediate course is a three-month course with 23 hours of lessons per week. The supplementary course is a one-month or two-month course. Access to the 2nd level Intermediate course is granted to: - Students who have attended the 1st level Intermediate course- Students who have been assigned to the 2nd level Intermediate course by the entrance exam - Students who have a CELI 2 or equivalent Italian Language Certificate issued by another similar institution to our University Subjects per week- Italian language: 12 hours- Aspects of Italian culture: 6 hours - Speaking practice: 4 hours - Practice in pronunciation : 1 hour CertificatesAt the end of the 2nd level Intermediate course, after passing the final examination, students may take an Italian Language Certificate, corresponding to B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), acquiring the 20 ECTS necessary for access to the next level. Students who attend the supplementary courses for two months the same level may automatically enrol in the third month of the basic course of the same level and sit the final exam.2st level intensive intermediate course- Italian language: 12 hours- Aspects language: 12 hours- Speaking practice: 9 hours - Practice in pronunciation: 2 hours - Total hours of lessons per week: 29 hours 1st level advanced course [C1]ObjectivesThe objective of the course is to train students to use the language almost effortlessly, in its oral as well as written forms, in a natural and spontaneous manner. They must be able to make themselves easily understood even if the expressions they use are not always correct and accurate. They must have good mastery of a broad lexical repertory in different areas sufficient to allow them to understand specialised articles in newspapers and magazines. In terms of communication they must be able to choose the most suitable language functions from their repertoire in order to speak and keep up a conversation, to express their points of view using a language that is not only appropriate but also efficient for communicative purposes. They must be able to write clear and well structured texts, even on complicated topics. Length and characteristicsThe 1st level Advanced course is a three-month course with 24 hours of lessons per week Supplementary courses are held only in the months July, August and September.Access to the 1st level Advanced course is granted to:- Students who have obtained the Italian Language Certificate of the 2nd level Intermediate course or have passed the written examination in Italian language- Students who have been assigned to the 1st level Advanced course by the entrance exam - Students who have a CELI 3 or equivalent Italian Language Certificate issued by another similar institution to our University.There are three study courses:- Language

Students who attend the supplementary courses for two months of the same level may automatically enrol in the third month of the basic course of the same level and sit the final exam. 1st level intensive advanced course- Italiana language: 12 hours- Italian language drill exercises: 5 hours - Phonetic drill exercises: 2 hours 4 subjects to be chosen between: - Translation: 3 hours- Elements of Italian Literature: 3 hours - Elements of Contemporary Italian History: 3 hours - Elements of Italian History of Art: 3 hours - Economics, practice and commercial correspondence: 3 hours 2st level advanced course [C2]ObjectivesThe objective of the course is to make students capable of controlling all varieties and registers of the written and spoken language. They should be students who "know how to use the language with the precision, pertinence and linguistic fluency of an exceptionally good learner”. At the end of the course students must prove that they not only have good linguistic skills but sufficient linguistic competence to allow them to describe the most important aspects of the morphology and syntax of contemporary Italian in its varieties, including regional accents. They must be able to express themselves through words and through writing with precision and naturalness also in complicated topics of a social and cultural nature. They must prove that they can apply the pragmatic rules of use of the language in oral and written interaction as well as the rules of style required for creative and poetic use of the language. This is why the fundamental structures of Italian morphology are taken for granted as acquired and consolidated.Length and characteristicsThe 2nd level Advanced course is a six-month course divided into two terms. Access to the 2nd level Advanced course is granted to: - Students who have obtained the Italian Language Certificate of the 1st level Advanced course or have passed the written examination in Italian language- Students who have been assigned to the 2nd level Advanced course by the entrance exam - Students who have a CELI 4 or equivalent Italian Language Certificate issued by another similar institution to our University. There are three study courses:- Language
- Culture
- Technical/Business
Each of these study courses has 27 hours of lessons per week. The syllabus of the various subjects is divided into two terms according to type or content. At the end of each term students may sit the relative examinations acquiring the credits necessary to obtain the final diploma of the course. There are fundamental, specific and subsidiary subjects. The subsidiary subjects are common to all study courses.CertificatesAt the end of the 2nd level Advanced course, after passing the Italian language examination, students may take the Italian Language Certificate, corresponding to C2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
